FITTING SERVICES

There are three pathways to work with me in Fitting:

  • Integrative Fitting: this service was created for athletes who have been unsuccessful in resolving their challenges on the bike with conventional fitting methods. Cyclists who have had one or multiple fits without the end result they are seeking.

  • Hourly Fit Work: booked in 90 minute increments, this option is best for athletes who have an aspect of their fit they want to target [for example: refine cleat position].

  • Virtual Fitting: this service is for remote work; the athlete sends me video of them riding indoors, and we analyze their position in a live video call.

INTEGRATIVE FITTING

An Integrative Fitting is a product created specifically to help athletes who have unresolved challenges on the bike, or who want a complete holistic overview of their relationship to health and cycling. These athletes have frequently been to one or more fitting sessions and have not found a solution.

Athletes who book an Integrative Fitting often struggle with pain on or off the bike, or a sensation of asymmetry or “twistedness” that detracts from their enjoyment of riding or expression of potential on the bike.

It is a six hour, comprehensive in person session fit session. The price is $1000.

HOURLY FITTING

This service is intended for clients who have specific issues they would like to target, such as cleat placement, saddle selection, or postural refinement. This is the ideal choice for a rider who feels “mostly dialed” but wants a tune up or a refinement of their existing set up. Appointments can be booked in ninety minute increments. The client will only pay for the time we use.

VIRTUAL FITTING

This service is for athletes who would prefer to work virtually.

The session will begin with a questionnaire that will help me understand the context of the athlete’s goals for the fit, and any challenges the athlete is experiencing on or off the bike. After I have analyzed the completed questions and video footage provided by the client, we will discuss what I have observed and, and I will suggest a course of action for any changes. This video consultation will take approximately one hour and is included in the fee of $300.

Understand there are limits to virtual bike fitting sessions and thus the service I can provide is not as complete as in person.

About Fitting Experience and Methods:

Colby trained with Steve Hogg as a bike fitter in 2012, living in Sydney Australia for nearly a month and studying Steve’s methods in person. Steve Hogg has gained a reputation in the bike fitting industry as a thought leader and trend disruptor; this does not sit well with orthodox methods or thinking, and he is seen by some industry professionals as a black sheep. His popularity grew when he wrote extensive articles for Cyclingnews.com in the early 00’s, and readers began to understand his methods of critical thinking and unique passion for solving complex problems. Pearce read many of Steve’s blogs and applied for training, and was accepted on the basis that he had some experience [not much in reality], could think outside the standard bike fitting paradigm, and was willing to recognize the limitations of his own knowledge.

Pearce returned to Boulder and opened a small fitting studio, where he split time between fitting and coaching, which came with criticism from peers. However, this multi-faceted approach helped Pearce develop his own methods and understanding of athletes, which integrates many of Steve’s methods as well as others.

Ongoing studies have included GOATA, The Evolved Coach, The Chek Institute, and numerous other systems.

During a fit session, the primary tool used for client analysis is video [normally using an iPad]. This simple tool can help us understand how the athlete moves as an individual; when taken in the context of the athlete’s goals and challenges, this is more than enough information to move in the right direction. Pearce does not use movement tracking or analysis tools that are common in other fit studios or methods; technology has a place and it is used sparingly and appropriately.

“My bike fitting session with Colby was a positive experience which was possibly the greatest single investment I’ve made in my decades of athletic adventures. I’m more comfortable and efficient on the bicycle; I have increased total body awareness and greater understanding of how my body interacts with the bike.  The benefits of working with Colby have been profound both on and off the bike.  My only regret is not seeing Colby sooner.”

FAQ

How do I know if I should book an Integrative Fitting or Hourly Fit work?

If you are a rider who has ongoing challenges with your fit that have not been resolved in multiple attempts, or persistent health problems that impact your cycling, the Integrative Fitting was created for you. This service is made for riders who have been unable to find a solution with conventional fitting methods.

Do I have to bring my own bike for our fit work, or do you have an adjustable “fit bike”?

I do have an adjustable bike we can use for fitting, but my first choice is to see the athlete on their native equipment. Seeing the athlete on a different bike, even with careful attention to replication of measurements, will not be the same as working with someone on their personal steed.

What about integrated cables?

Bikes with integrated cables can be a challenge for fitting sessions. While I can perform basic mechanical services, changing integrated or internally routed handlebars, or lowering / raising integrated bars is quite complicated and not possible during a fit session. If you arrive with a bike with integrated or internally routed bars, it limits the amount of change we can make and potentially limits the impact of our work together. That said, many riders are not on integrated set ups and so we do the best we can to problem solve accordingly. In some cases, this means changes are recommended, and a follow up session is booked after the work is completed by the mechanic of your choice. I am happy to make recommendations for this work if needed.

Do I need to bring all my bikes or just one bike?

You will receive detailed measurements of your bike before and after changes made which will enable you to duplicate or transfer measurements from one bike to another as needed. If you have bikes from multiple disciplines [IE gravel, road, etc] I can guide you on how the dimensions may or may not translate according to the discipline.

Is there an option to ship my bike for our fit session?

Yes, there is a shipping store directly below my studio on the first floor of the building. They use Fed Ex, UPS and USPS.
