COLBY PEARCE
Colby Pearce is a holistic life and cycling coach, bike fitter, and podcaster. He has been racing since 1988, but now focuses on helping athletes find balance in their relationship to sport. In his philosophy, sport is training for life.
Discovering the sport when he was 14 years old, Pearce was [metaphorically] struck by lightning at his first race, a Colorado series for juniors aged 10-15 based on the Red Zinger Bicycle Classic. His trajectory was launched, and he began racing road, track, mountain bike and cyclocross in CO and throughout the US.
Over the next 3.5 decades he would compete on five continents, place in the top 10 at track World Championships, claim victories at Track World Cups, win mountain bike, cyclocross, gravel, and road races. His climbing abilities were “barely the last guy in the first group on a good day” which put a ceiling on the potential of certain aspects of his development. On the other hand, racing on the track fit well with his skill set: a tactical mind, excellent aerodynamics, good leg speed and quick decision making helped achieve success on the velodrome.
He would also get dropped, bonk, crash, break bones, make tactical errors, miss the breakaway, and have race day mishaps countless times over the seasons of racing. These experiences were powerful learning opportunities.
