Thinking critically. Pedaling consciously. Acting intuitively.
Greetings and salutations. I am Colby Pearce, a holistic life and cycling coach, bike fitter, and podcaster who has been racing since 1988. I prefer to focus on helping athletes find balance in their relationship to sport. In my philosophy, sport is training for life and health precedes athletic potential.
I have competed on five continents in road, mountain, cyclocross, gravel and track races, winning hundreds of races in the process. I held the US Hour Record in 1995 and a World Master’s Hour Record in 2018, was a seven time world championship team member, and was a member of the 2004 Olympic team.
In addition to this racing experience, I have gained a broad set of skills working in varied roles, including for USA Cycling as an Track Endurance Coach, as head coach for the University of Colorado Cycling Team, as a Director Sportif for TIAA-CREF [which evolved into Garmin-Sharp and later into Education First], as a product ambassador for SRM USA, as a part of the sports science team for Garmin-Sharp, and as a Director of Coaching at Team EF Coaching [current].
My formal education includes certification with Steve Hogg as a fitter, Chek Institute Holistic Lifestyle Coaching level 3, Chek Integrated Movement Specialist level 5, and USAC level one coach.
Cumulatively, these racing and life experiences have allowed me to cultivate a unique skill set that can help athletes from many perspectives. While I certainly had success as a racer, I feel my real evolution is to help other athletes achieve balance and right relationship with sport, and help them express their athletic potential.
In my philosophy, true coaching is far beyond increasing FTP or giving a rider workouts which dictate what zone to ride in. True bike fitting is far beyond knee angles, saddle height, and wedges. Both of these aspects of cycling are opportunities for an athlete to develop self knowledge through the experience of sport.
“Sport is training for life”.
Athletic potential is ultimately distilled to the understanding of the landscape of choice and the subsequent reasoning why a given choice is made. If we ride without true alignment towards our goals, or practice sport while playing out unconscious programs about what we “should” do, our experience will be stained with the friction of belief systems that interfere with our potential.
This is not the orthodox viewpoint in modern cycling. Many athletes and coaches are simply focused on w/kg or g/cho/hr and I am not here to say this is good or bad; it is simply not the domain I am interested in working in. I think true growth and human potential lies outside mathematics, gizmos and algorithms.

We join spokes together in a wheel,
but it is the center hole
that makes the wagon move.
We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.
We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.
We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.
